The sun shone brightly. The winds shallow and the day beautiful. A truck the color of Navy rumbled up the drive, horse trailer in tow. The tires crunched on top of the gravel and it bumped along. Pulling up to the wonderous show barn, the truck looked misplaced. This place looked like it belonged to a mustang GT or a BMW, but no. Her Ford Truck, she would never let go. As they squealed to a stop, the horse stomped his hooves and whinnied. They had been at the barn for a while. Coming back for a show, having penalties, not their best. But they had other times to come and they would do better.
As her dirt covered boots stepped out of the door, sun glinted on her black Aviator sunglasses. The only thing that she owned that was rarely expensive. She trundled to the trailer door and slammed the door open, lock dropping to the ground. The horse that stood in there, tramped hooves and whinnied excitedly. "A'ight, lets go boy." Her sweet, cooing voice cooned as she stepped into the trailer. Black boots tapping and tight jeans clinging to her finely chiseled legs. Fall Out Boy clad tank hung to her body and showed off her defined arms as she un-clipped the halter. Pushing at the gelding's chest, she helped him out of the trailer.
Stomping more feet, Coal half-reared and wickered, making Gretchen smile. Leading him with a tug, she brought him to a paddock with some logs littered about. Ears pricked and tail flicking back forth, energy surging through the horse to run around. Gretchen swung the gait open while swiftly unclipping the rope, swatting at the horse's flank. Coal jolted into a canter, going around the paddock a few times. Gretchen closed the gait and leaned against it. She had not forgotten about the trailer and tack, just decided to ignore it.
She smiled as her horse bucked, jumped, galloped. Living a happy life. Shaking her head lightly, she closed her eyes as a wind shifted through. "I miss you Fugitve." She whispered as she held back tears from remembering training that wonderful mare. Looking to Coal, she just watched him. In a trance, never noticing anything around her. The beauty in his stride just made him so wonderful looking.
Finally looking behidn her, she sighed and left the gate. Her class would be starting soon and she needed to get November ready to teach. Feeling the crunch of gravel beneath her thin soled boots. Peering into the barn, she smiled as the whickers and whinnies of horses reached her ears. Sauntering in, she reached November's stall and lifted a piece of Licorice from her pocket. Reaching out to him with the candy the Caspian Pony snapped the piece out of her hand.
Opening the door, she grabbed the lead rope hanging from a hook and attatched it to his halter. Tugging him out of the stall, he snorted and didn't want to go. "Come on you brute." She grunted and finally got him out of the stall once all the licorice was gone. Rolling her eyes, she stopped to get his tack and then wandered out to the ring. The spacious outdoor ring was perfect for this sunny afternoon. The old, leather saddle clinging to her shoulder started to slip and fell to the ground. Grumbling, she bent off and suddenly screamed and stood up. November had a look of devilish delight on his face because he had nipped her butt.
Gretchen smiled and picked up his tack with careful eye. Leading him into the ring once tack was over shoulder, she tied him to the post at the far end. Looking up from buckling the girth strap, Coal neighed fiercely as he stuck his head over the gate of the nearby paddock. Smiling, she finished tacking up November and left to get Coal. Feet hurrying and not really caring that November wasn't tied to the post, but reigns slung over his shoulders atleast.
Reaching Coal, she opened the gate and let him trot out. Going to the trailer, she grabbed rough leather tack and slammed the trailer close. Coal close behind her as she went back to the ring. November pressing against the gate and eager to ride. Sighing, she led Coal in, tied and tacked him and then tied November close by. "No, not now you two." She said in a gentle voice and petted them each in turn.
